GEET GAWAI - A CULTURAL LEGACY
After many years a young lady is coming back to Mauritius for holidays. One day while going to the shop she came across an old man and remembers that the later was called “dada santeur”. He was in a pitiful state but the young lady greeted him and talked to him. The old man was a Bhojpuri singer but now he is living alone as his children are abroad. The young lady gives a lift to the old man who invites him inside his house. There the lady finds many musical instruments and some old photos. She asks him who were on the photos. The old man narrates that they were his fellow singers and he has not seen any of them for years. One friend is a geet gawai singer. The old man relates how this was very popular in the yester years. The young lady is fascinated and make a research on geet gawai and discovers that it is classified as intangible cultural heritage on heritage.

I Mr. Pravesh Das Varun Nunkoo curently working as lecturer in film and video production in Mauritius. Also Director/Producer at Your Perfect Solution Eyedea Ltd which is an advertising company.
My professional experience spans around 7 years in the Mauritian Film Industry. More than 20 National awards have been won so far.
In addition my team and I have recently won the NATIONAL AWARD for outstanding contribution in the field of CINEMA which was organized by the Ministry of Arts and Culture at national level which was held in April 2019. Short film name ‘Leritaz Nou Ancet’.
