Fruitbooters: Transcending the Skatepark

Since their rise to popularity in the 90s, skateboarding and in-line skating have long dominated skateparks accompanied by an aggressive masculinity that has shadowed over the culture. During the pandemic, after years of many actors challenging this skatepark culture, a third, queer and fem-centred skating community emerged; roller-skaters. This is the story of MARS (Montreal Aggressive Roller Skating) a community formed to create safe spaces in the skatepark for marginalized roller-skaters, promoting inclusion and mutual encouragement.
