Adelaide Berardi was born in Toronto, ON and eventually moved to Whitby, ON, where she attended high school. She currently goes to York University for film production, in her fourth year. There, she has directed three films, and co-directed three others. Her most recent project, Frontline, is a documentary about climate activism in Toronto.
When I first set out to make this film, I had a much different premise in mind. I had planned on documenting a larger, more general topic, documenting climate justice activist groups in Toronto and their history. I attended and decided to document the COP26 rally on a whim, thinking it would make good b-roll footage. But, when the speakers at the rally inspired me to the degree that they did, I knew I had to refocus the documentary. Interviewing these four activists about their part in the rally as well as their activism in general was an honour, and the knowledge I gained from our on- and off-set conversations is priceless. And, despite narrowing down the scope of my documentary, I learned a larger lesson about the perseverance at the heart of the movement.
