Mike Jourard was born and raised in Belleville, Ontario. He has wanted to be a filmmaker since he was a teenager. Unfortunately, he had to leave his studies in film production at York University in the late 1970s. Following a successful 45-year career in Information Technology, Mike relocated to Kingston, Ontario, in November, 2021, subsequently retiring from his IT career. His lifelong interest in film making was rekindled after attending the 2024 Kingston Canadian Film Festival, and he produced this first film later that year.
Unlike other documentaries about animal rescue organizations, “From Lab to Love” focuses not on the fact of and mechanics of animal rescue operations, but on the players involved, both human operatives and the canine subjects they rescue from research facilities.
This film was developed in the inaugural session of the Kingston Canadian Film Festival Doc Factory program.
