From Durga To Hudur Durga
Durga Puja is the biggest celebration among the Bengalis. A celebration filled with joy and happiness. But behind this, there's a sad story which is not known to the mass. An ancient native community who have been deprived by the powerful. Misrepresentation of historical events forced them to live under the shadow. Gradually they lost their culture, language and identity.
Such community is Asur, who are based in Bengal and Jharkhand. Their leader Hudur Durga is misrepresented in the Hindu Mythology as Mahishasura and characterized as evil.
According to this community, their leader was betrayed and murdered by a foreign lady called Durga. They were thrown out from their own land and their leader was portrayed as evil.
During the four days of Durga Puja the Asur tribe mourns for their great loss. Living in their own country with an identity crisis is not letting them to come forward and tell their story.
"From Durga To Hudur Durga" is based on the untold story of Asur community in India.
