From Ashes We Rise
The short narrative film 'From Ashes We Rise' was made in collaboration with Martiniquan/Guyanese artist Elodie Cage-Smith on Khadijah Carberry's travels through Amazonian Guyana, South America. It is a narrative exploration of how history and the stories we tell ourselves dominate the shaping of our identities. Through the film the artists seek to take you on a universal journey that encourages introspection and conversation about the past, present and future

Khadijah Carberry is British artist who seeks to use the medium of Film to explore the narratives that we as individuals and collectives tell ourselves. She is currently completing a degree in Modern and Classical Languages whilst working on various projects through 'And We Unfold Films' and the Community Group she has co-founded 'The Healing Communities Initiative'
From Ashes We Rise was a collective exploration of what it is to live and go forward in life no matter what the past has served you or your ancestors. It was born out of Elodie Cage Smiths Artistic Explorations of the past present and futures of the Afro West-Indian people whose heritage has been hugely impacted but the legacy of slavery and my own quest for belonging in the world, which led me to a sojourn to Guyana where I reconnected with my diverse roots. Never having made a film before we took the plunge as we were convinced we had a voice and story to unfold and share..
