Born in Warwickshire, and growing up between Stratford upon Avon and Birmingham, Kit has strong Midlands roots. Kit is an artist, Actor, Puppet maker, Puppeteer, and award-winning filmmaker. He recently moved back to Birmingham after living in London for several years and has been busy exhibiting and creating at the Kings Heath art rooms, as well as performing original puppets shows.
Near to where I grew up, in Stratford-upon-Avon, there stands a clock tower in the market square. The tower is itself very ornate with imposing stone griffins standing watch over the passers-by. Yet what makes this clock tower truly remarkable (and slightly baffling) is the tiny door at its base. A portal so small that no one could possibly use it. As a child, this impossible tower with its even more impossible door fascinated me. This was the genesis of what would grow to be 'Fright'. The idea of tiny people hiding inside that clock tower remained dormant for many years until I pitched the story to my friend and creative collaborator Robert Dukes about a world devastated by fear and populated by all manner of wonderful creatures. Any enthusiasm we had for such a project was immediately met with dread with the realisation that the story be told completely with puppets. Nevertheless, we set about the process of bringing the story and the characters to life. What fills me with pride more than anything else about this project is the fact that it was made entirely from scratch. It depicts a world fashioned from cardboard and papier-mache and showcases characters formed of tin foil and clay. The world of 'Fright' was made from nothing but brought to life with the help, expertise, and skill of so many talented artists, actors and filmmakers.
