Hello, My name is Frank Popp Jr. I'm an independent filmmaker living in Welland, Ontario
I’ve written, directed, and edited award winning short films as well as a feature length called MULCH (2014).
My love for the Horror genre began at the age of 8, after I watched Evil Dead 2 for the first time. It was around this time that my late father (Frank Popp Sr.) purchased a Sony Betamax VCR. By the age of 11, our local Jumbo Video began purging their Beta rentals. Luckily for me, the entire collection ended up in my families basement and I was more than eager to watch, and appreciate A-pictures, B-pictures and everything in between.
By the age of 13, my mother, Cathie Popp, put a Sony Hi8 camera in my hands with the freedom to create my own form of expression. This is where my passion for filmmaking began. I have a true love for telling stories regardless of budgetary restrictions.
As an independent filmmaker with no professional help, I needed to learn the role of practically every task in order to make these films happen. My resources were quite limited so I had to learn fast and improve my skills from one production to another. This was my only opportunity to develop my skills at the time, and therefor the best way to progress.
Since then, I’ve found a great group of talented and dedicated individuals to work with who also share the same passion.
My dream (one day) is to make a film that’ll be shown in theatres and drive ins, eventually landing on a streaming site like Netflix, or an Evil Dead sequel. Whatever comes first.
