Frame + Form | Screen Dance Festival is presented by The Media Arts Project in collaboration with Revolve. This festival features dance created specifically for film and video. An inherently interdisciplinary genre, screen dance combines the disciplines of dance, performance, visual art, cinema and media arts. The festival raises artistic awareness of this genre by presenting experimental contemporary dance films from nationally and internationally recognized choreographers and filmmakers.

Selected artists will receive a $50 stipend.

The Media Arts Project (MAP) is a 501(c)3 based in Asheville, NC. The MAP cultivates a dynamic arts culture in western North Carolina by supporting artists and performers who apply innovative approaches to technology and experiential formats. The MAP inspires new ways of experiencing contemporary ideas through non-object based art like performance, digital media, new media and interdisciplinary platforms and thus helps to raise the cultural vitality of our community. Keeping with our mission, we are seeking the most exceptional and experimental works from nationally and internationally recognized choreographers and filmmakers.

Frame + Form - Screen Dance Festival is juried by a three person panel using a rubric the evaluates artistic merit and the quality of the submission. The jurors also takes into account our overall programming goal when making the final selections. Juror's names and feedback is available upon request. MAP is dedicated to bringing the highest quality work to Frame + Form | Screen Dance Festival and ensures that a diverse demographic of artists are represented, with attention given to gender, race, and cultural background.

    I was very pleased to screen my film BODY/BAG at this festival. Although there were some bumps in communication, I was grateful to receive a $50 honorarium. This is all too rare.
