Fractal Geometry of the Carpet - Flower of Life
My work, "Flower of Life," explores the Fractal Geometry of Persian Carpets, emphasizing two key elements: the intricate geometry of carpet design and the concept of the flower of life, which is said to embody the fundamental blueprint of the universe and influence every atomic and molecular structure. Modern science and quantum physics support this idea, affirming the cosmic significance of these ancient sacred geometric shapes, which are viewed as evidence of intelligent design.
As an interdisciplinary artist with a background in digital art and carpet design, I aim to preserve the carpet as a "medium" while delving deeper into fractal knowledge and its connection to sacred geometry. My primary focus is to illustrate this art form's intrinsic nature by integrating fractal concepts and patterns that define Persian carpets. I also seek to contrast traditional Euclidean geometry, as seen in Iranian art, with non-Euclidean geometry found in fractals, using digital art as a bridge.
The sound design for this project, created by "Farbod Hamedi," draws on fractal patterns, incorporating synthesizer techniques and natural sound recordings. Fractal art, rooted in the intersection of geometry, algorithms, and mathematics, connects to classical art and natural forms. This novelty has led to its application across various fields, including traditional carpet weaving. By employing this fractal approach, authentic Iranian carpets can be crafted through modern technology, linking the geometric vision of Islamic artists with contemporary fractal art. This connection rejuvenates traditional forms and fosters dialogue between generations.
Globally, significant efforts are being made to revive sacred geometry in various artistic domains, underlining the importance of applying fractal principles to carpet weaving. In the digital age, the patterns and geometries in Iranian carpets have the potential to enrich other artistic forms, specifically digital art, by extracting and updating fractal designs to enhance their engagement and relevance.
