Royce Daniel Lewis is a 17-year-old American filmmaker born in Pomona, California on August 20, 2006. Royce has had a big interest in filmmaking and cinema from a young age, uploading his first public family film when he was just 8 years old. From 2015-2018, he made 11 family films before taking a break to focus on middle school. In 2022, now relocated from Denver, Colorado to Atlanta, Georgia, Royce returned to his passion for cinema, studying and learning as much as he could before creating a short film, "A Boy in Quarantine" which was recognized by four film festivals. In the summer of 2023, he participated in the Georgia Film Academy's summer camp helping co-direct a short film called, "Memory Card". In January 2024, he won first place in the Clayton County Public Schools Promotional Video Contest for Tutor.com. In February of that year, he was a production assistant on director Miles Triplett's short film, "The Knee Touch". Royce's goal is to inspire others with his work and to innovate black filmmaking in a positive new, way!
After my short film "A Boy in Quarantine", it wasn't too long before my creative juices were flowing and I was writing what was slated to be my next short film "Fortune & Longing". Originally named "Visitude of Fortune", "Fortune & Longing" highlights greed and ambition and the lengths people will go to get what they want or where they want to be. Inspired by my own sense of longing for something better and inspiring that would get me closer to my dreams as a filmmaker, ambition and greed are combated by hope for a better future. The innocence of a child placed in the cold harsh reality of the world, without even realizing it at the initial time of writing the first draft, a reflection for those of us who feel as though we've grown up too fast. I hope that those who watch this put things into perspective for themselves and can somehow relate to the overall message of hope and with that can inspire significant changes in themselves or someone else's life.
