Forest Granny

In a time when concrete jungles are fast replacing forests and green patches here is a woman who has converted her 5 acre land into a man-made forest.83 year old Devaki Amma belonging to Kayamkulam in Kerala made this forest by collecting tree saplings, planting and nurturing them in her homestead. Now over 600 species of trees are there in this forest. Much type of birds and other creatures are seen in this forest. Numerous visitors including children visit this forest daily. They get inspired and plant trees on their own. In a place like Kerala where concrete jungles are fast replacing green patches, manmade forests such as this are very valuable. Devaki Amma is confident that her future generations will protect this forest.

Director Biography - G.S.Unnikrishnan Nair

Born on 20th of May 1964, G.S.Unnikrishnan Nair is a science writer, science film maker, children’s writer and farm journalist. He has won 19 national and 13 state awards. He secured graduation in Agriculture from BHU with PG in Journalism and Mass communicaion.Retired as Additional Director in Agriculture Department; Govt.of Kerala. G.S.Unnikrishnan has written over 3000 popular-science articles in leading Newspapers and magazines and published 52 popular-science books. His Science documentaries have been screened in International and National Film Festivals including International Nature Film festival,Godollo,Hungary, International TV Ecological Festival, Ugra,Russia,London Eco film festival, Sandalia Sustainability Film festival,Italy,InShort Film Festival ,Lagos,Nukhu Fest,USA, Unified Filmmakers Children’s vision on Climate change festival,Germany ,National Science Film Festival of India,CMS Vatavaran, New Delhi, MIFF, Mumbai, AICEAVF,NewDelhi,MANAGE Agri.
