Director Statement

When thinking about family, we associate it with ideas of love, support, togetherness, trust, and stability. However, in reality it can be hard to find a family that reflects these ideas on a consistent basis. We’re human after all, we make mistakes, we break promises and we grow apart. This film follows Myles, someone who has a chance to reconnect with his father and the conflicting feelings he has to navigate through to get there.

Though far from autobiographical, I see a lot of myself in Myles. He struggles to express his thoughts and feelings about the situation, leaning on music to help convey how he feels. Similarly, I turned to filmmaking to process and communicate my emotions. His journey in attempting to let a part of his family back in is one I’m still exploring personally and the making of this film has helped to make the road ahead a little easier to travel on.
