K FOSTER MELLOTT is a writer and director based out of Richmond, Virginia. He has written one previous short for VCUarts Cinema and is now focusing on Foam Sword, the first short he’s ever directed. His work primarily involves real people facing fantastical situations. He remains obsessed with monsters, both in real life and the ones we imagine in our nightmares. Other than filmmaking, Foster enjoys historical research and cryptozoology.
One of the things that attracted us to Foam Sword, was its clever way of viewing masculinity. Jason not only has to wrestle with a group of toxic “friends,” he also has to face his own preconceived notions of what a man really is. The fantasy genre features a ton of violent, self-serving “heroes” and that portrayal ultimately causes Jason to lose faith in himself.
