Flutter
Jerry, an awkwardly plump hummingbird, desperately tries to fit in with his siblings. But more often than not, he only weighs them down, literally. After accidentally destroying the family nest, Jerry is exiled to an old dead tree, never to be seen or heard from again. Family always sticks together though. So when a hungry house cat attempts to turn his siblings into a three-course meal, Jerry must set his sorrows aside and be the bird he was born to be in order to save his family.

Adam Reed Levy is an American film director, film producer, screenwriter, animator and character technical director. He is best known for his technical animation work on Oscar winning films such as Frozen, Zootopia, Encanto and Feast.
Adam entered the animation industry in 2009, starting out as a production assistant. From there he worked his way up in production management until he switched career paths and decided to learn the programs necessary in order to become a Technical Animation artist.
Flutter, releasing in 2023, is Adam’s directorial debut, starring Alfred Molina.
“Flutter” is a film inspired by family, both in the nature of the story, and in its visual style. While developing “Flutter,” we wanted to create a story that said it was okay to be yourself, and to not shy away from that. We wanted to reassure our audience that its perfectly okay to be comfortable in your own skin, no matter what others say or do to you.
The style of this short is something that was very personal to me. We went for a paper craft look which was inspired by my mother, who is a preschool teacher. I grew up watching her make paper craft with her young and eager students, and it’s something I felt really suited this style of animation, and was a nice way to show appreciation toward my parents who have supported my creative endeavors in animation.
And as far as the production of this short, it was made all pro bono, by professionals throughout the animation industry (Disney Animation, Dreamworks Animation, Sony Animation, Locksmith and DNEG) all over the world. It was a project people really enjoyed and were willing to donate their free time to. Even our award winning lead, Alfred Molina (Chocolat, Frida, Boogie Nights, Spider Man and Fued to name a few), donated his free time and worked pro bono on this project. On top of that, the story definitely grabbed people who saw it, and because of the theme, we were able to get artists of all races, genders, sexual orientations and ethnicities. I am very proud to have such a diverse crew for this project.
