Official selections for 2024 will be screened on one of these dates: February 3rd and 4th, June 14 and 15th, and November 15th and 16th.

Florida Surf Film Festival, located at Atlantic Center for the Arts, in New Smyrna Beach, Florida, typically runs three to four events per calendar year in February, June (two nights), August, and November (two nights). We announce awards for films entered for competition in the various documentary categories at the November event. Submissions are open year round.

We celebrate your work by sharing it with journalists, surfers, aspirants, our fans in the most old school way possible... in person, in a theater... But not just any space. Atlantic Center for the Arts is located on 68 acres of wetlands and boasts architectural award-winning studios and gallery space. Also, ACA is home to 28 units of housing along with 3 master artist cottages. ACA hosts our filmmakers for no charge, and we'll fly you in (within reason) if your feature documentary is officially selected. Short filmmakers are also welcome to stay with us on campus.

We typically show films in the blackbox theater, which seats 265, and if weather cooperates in November and February, the amphitheater outdoors, which seats 300, plus another 200 standing. We are a lo-fi festival. 4K (2160p) or 2K (1080p) from an .mp4 file in stereo on a 16' x 9' screen, but it does the trick. Prores files are fine.

We can't thank you enough for choosing to participate in the submission process. It takes guts to put your hard work out there for others to reject or glorify. So thank you, and we wish you the best, and hope to see you in New Smyrna Beach soon. Unfortunately, we do not have time to reply to all entries, and we only offer feedback when time allows. We do not pay screening fees to keep the entries on the same playing field.

Feature documentaries are longer than 30 minutes, and well, short... All awards are accompanied by digital laurels and a trophy. Both features and shorts are separately eligible for these awards. In other words, one award for feature; one for short - for each category for a total of 10 awards.
