Fish & Rice
A family is having fish for lunch at a restaurant, while the parents are arguing about a stranger’s visit to their house, and their son’s dreamy mind is obsessing over the eyes of fish and their dreams.
When the boy finds a small diamond ring inside his piece of fish, the heated argument between the parents escalates into a fight over the boy’s diamond ring and who gets to have it, while the boy’s mind fixates even more, on the fish’s eye.

Hussein Hossam is an Egyptian Writer/Director born and raised in the coastal city of Port
Said. He was interested in storytelling from a young age, which is also influenced by his
own hometown. After graduating with a bachelor's degree in Construction Engineering,
and joining the protests of 2011. He started attending several filmmaking workshops and
directed his attention to writing film critique articles for Mada Masr.
After learning under the mentorship of directors in Cairo such as Ahmed Maher and Ali
Badrakhan, he joined Prague Film School in 2018 for a two-year diploma in
screenwriting and directing. During his studies, he wrote and directed two short films,
Barzakh, and Holy Mother, which screened in several international film festivals worldwide. He was later selected later by the Hungarian director Béla Tarr among ten Egyptian filmmakers to learn under his mentorship. With his guidance, he wrote and directed the short film Fish & Rice.
