Director Biography - Andrew McGee

Andrew McGee is an award-winning British writer, director, and producer. He has a particular fondness for science-fiction, aspiring to tell powerful and timely character-driven stories on an epic scale.

His work so far has explored an expansive range of sci-fi worlds and ideas, and his short film ‘Venus’ received BAFTA/Academy-qualifying festival acclaim and 11 Best Sci-Fi Film awards.

His upcoming short First Sight, starring Ellise Chappell and Jacob Fortune-Lloyd, is an emotional exploration of grief through shown through the lens of near-future technology.

Driven by ambition and a keen interest in filmmaking technology, Andrew aspires to push the boundaries of what is achievable within the genre on an independent level, both narratively and visually.

In the near-future age of Artificial Intelligence, Luna is finally ready to re-enter the world of dating, turning to smart contact lenses to overcome her anxiety. But when her search for human connection takes a dark turn and her vision is held for ransom, she must outsmart a mysterious hacker to save her sight... and her date night.

First Sight, starring Ellise Chappell (Poledark, Young Wallander) and Jacob Fortune-Lloyd (The Queen's Gambit, Bodies), is an emotional exploration of grief shown through the lens of technology.

The film explores the role tech plays in modern relationships, both positively and negatively, and the darker consequences of its extreme integration into our lives and bodies. What would conversation be like if you could see your date's interests and level of engagement? And if a hacker finds their way into your computer, you can always pull the plug - but what if they've hacked into your sight...? Our film tells this very story through Luna's eyes.
