I am a Chinese American artist from Harlem, New York. Being a child of immigrants, I have been shown sacrifice, humility, and gratitude. I was unable to see my own story on screen, nor my family’s growing up. I always thought this was unfair. So I became a filmmaker to share the silenced voices that are loud, yet unheard.
Chinese New Years was just around the corner when I started writing and I wanted to create a piece that reflects the state of being an Asian American in America. It’s for those who feel
particularly torn when thinking of what ethnicity/racial group to identify with. I hope that it will extend into conversations of what it means to be a part of any identity group.
