Fifth Generation
At ten years old, Devin tells his father, Jack, he wants to become a professional basketball player. But, unbeknownst to Devin, he is next in line to inherit a 150-year-old insurance company created by his great-great-grandfather, formerly enslaved. Fast forward six years, Devin is a junior in high school. He is determined to secure a spot on his high school basketball team and "play ball." However, on the day of tryouts, Jack reminds Devin that playing basketball is not the way to leave a family legacy and that "only people with skills are successful." But, despite the growing opposition to Devin's basketball goals, Devin earns a starting position on his high school's basketball team. Unfortunately, Devin's hard work pays off the same day his mother dies of a fatal blood clot in her lungs. As a result of losing his biggest supporter, Devin struggles to align with his gift until a chance encounter with a former high school basketball superstar turned drug dealer helps Devin reconnect with his purpose and build a legacy on his terms.
