TITLE: “FIELD GOALS”

LOG LINE: This is a story from the college athlete’s perspective who put it on the line for colleges who make billions of dollars off athletes and even the coaches are millionaires, but most athletes struggle to pay cell phone bills.

PITCH: FIELD GOALS is about scandal, truths, betrayal, empowerment, exposure and all the drama that comes with it.

CONFLICT: Many colleges have these kids commit to their rules but the no rules applies to them. Coaches comes into these kids homes, promise them the world and in many cases leave for other jobs in the middle of the season. Where does that leave the athletes? We will follow the student athletes through their journey as athletes in college. College isn’t for everyone, many athletes doesn’t make and not all athletes can be trusted. We will see how they come from many different backgrounds and lifestyles to accomplish a common goal.

SYNOPSIS:

The facts: Colleges and college coaches make billions of dollars off student athletes while most athletes themselves can barely make ends meet due to eligibility rules.

Enter Kevin Wilson, a college football coach whose job is to recruit dozens of star athletes every year to stay competitive in his conference and keep his job. The prospective players are all rated from 1 to 5 stars and being that Wilson’s program is at a mid-level/C+ ranked college, he has to get creative with the rules to make it happen.

Once again, Coach Wilson prepares to travel the country and do whatever it takes to recruit student athletes from all walks of American life. He needs to convince the best student athletes in the country that choosing his university is the absolute best decision for them, their, families and their futures. Not to mention that his own career, legacy, and the reputation of his school’s football program depend on it.

Everybody’s hungry for success and under a tremendous amount of pressure to perform, but not everybody has what it takes to make it at the college level and beyond.

Making a deal with Coach Wilson can often include lies, betrayal, and broken promises...

But this season it finally starts to catch up with him when explosive allegations and simmering scandals begin to jeopardize his program, his players, and everything he’s worked to build throughout is controversial career...

Writer Biography - James Samuel

James Samuel was born and raised in Pasadena, California. He was a local football and track star. He received three division one football scholarship. Playing college football at San Diego state, Pasadena city, Utah state and finishing at Weber state university. His career in football was derailed in 2002 after being shot in the head in Los Angeles. Samuel received his Associates Art degree in Liberal Arts from Pasadena, Ca. He started coaching youth football, working as an assistant at John Muir high school before falling in love with designing clothing. Designing clothing played a big role in his life until a couple of his peers suggested that telling stories was one of his strengths. Now, shifting his focus to writing, he loves it and feeling it’s nothing better to do. Writing his first pilot episode of Black Collar started a new adventure for him. It changed his whole thought process, and he can’t get enough of expressing his thoughts.
