Director Biography - Sebastian Kern

Sebastian Kern is currently developing his personal theoretical and artistic approach to filmmaking, which he has loved since childhood, by studying for an interdisciplinary Bachelor's degree in Aisthesis with the subjects of art history and history, as well as additional studies in theatre pedagogy at the Catholic University of Eichstätt-Ingolstadt. He has been pursuing his first attempts to put theory into practice since 2022 by making short films, of which ‘Fernherrlichkeit’ is the first. His main areas of study are spatial theory and current questions of reception aesthetics and, more recently, digital media archaeology.

Director Statement

During the transition to studying humanities, and during the first few semesters, I realised and strengthened my conscience of having romantic inclinations towards other men as well. It was a time accompanied by uncertainty, self-doubt, but also joy and acceptance, the processes of which I worked out with myself in a personal retreat. Fernherrlichkeit is this mood and its adumbrations in moving image form. At that time, the gravitas-doubt, which is most likely to be reflected in the professor, was still the deepest.
