Experiencing Interruptions?

Fatou's Journey: A New Day Has Dawned

In despair, Fatou contemplates the challenges she has undergone since her diagnosis of Type 2 Diabetes (T2D) - the 9th leading cause of death, globally, per the WHO. Fatou ponders how she got to where she is.
Like many, confused and overwhelmed by the disease process, Fatou wishes she knew more about the disease and understood it better.
A nurse practitioner therefore teaches about the basics of T2D, providing health education for Fatou and other patients who might want to better understand T2D.
After hearing the teaching, Fatou appears to have some glimmer of hope.

She received this award for her work “Factors Influencing Self Care Behaviors of African American Adults with Type 2 Diabetes”at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill (UNC-CH).
Dr. Weeks began her professional life as an accountant and a schoolteacher. Her background in accounting allowed her to work internationally as the West African Area Director/Chief Financial Officer for a multi-billion dollar off-shore oil drilling company in Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire. She taught elementary, middle and high schools in NYC, Abidjan, Douala, Cameroun, and Raleigh, NC. Dr. Weeks also lent her excellence in teaching to the nursing profession by preparing North Carolina’s nursing students for practice, didactically and clinically. Since returning to live in the United States in 1999, Dr. Weeks has earned both a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN)/Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) and a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (UNC-CH). As an FNP, Dr. Weeks has served in retail health and several NC state agencies to include the prison, public and mental health systems, and nursing education.
