Director Statement

Faraway, Nearby is a short film made in the spirit of being playful with narrative forms. The starting point was a simple outline but was mainly shaped through a collaborative process with the lead actress Jessica Farr while shooting took place. This was the first time I've worked this way and it was exciting to discover the story while in the thick of it and to use techniques that I've learned while working in non-narrative films. A huge source of inspiration came from the quote:

"I am writing to a rhythm and not to a plot."
-Virginia Woolf
