Far From The Castle
On drought-ridden Southernmost tip of Africa, Eliza taps into her divine heritage to search for water. A mile away, the roaming Rotterdams have recently arrived in the region, only to set off again in search of a solution to the dwindling water reserves on the farm. They leave their only son, Maddox, behind. Now alone and free to preoccupy himself with his own time and ghastly imagination, Maddox stumbles upon Eliza searching for fresh water. She might just be the one to quench his thirst. Far from the Castle is a psycho-sexual fable warning us that while water owes nothing to nobody, it still speaks louder than words.

Julia is a writer/director/ producer, born and raised in South Africa, living between NYC and Cape Town.
After completing film school at The New York Film Academy, Julia entered the entertainment industry as a development executive at FremantleMedia (London). She was transferred to LA and then to RadicalMedia (NYC). Some of the properties that Julia pushed through development to production were the Netflix series, “Abstract”; YouTube’s THNKR channel and American Expresses music platform and experience, “UNstaged.”
In 2018 Julia went independent and wrote and directed her debut short, “Far From The Castle”. She is currently editing her second short, has a series in development inspired by “Far From The Castle,” and is writing her first feature based on the true story and book by Jean Marx-Engelbrecht, “Huberta: The Untold Story.”
With a history in story and branding, Julia also gets commissioned by platforms and agencies to make content. Her film, “Open Your Eyes“ launched on Convicts.nyc in June.
Julia is stirred by psychological, offbeat narratives that are brought to life through unusual micro-universes and lyrical imagery. There’s a mischievous undercurrent in her work, alluding to the complex nature of the human condition. Julia’s worlds run parallel to our own, often opening a window into the darker sides of our nature. Her audiences may be lulled in, but it’s not long before their abruptly catapulted out, oftentimes through harsh lessons learned.
Julia has an MBA from Oxford University, a Masters in Global Governance from Oxford University, a Masters in Brand Management from Vega, a Politics, Philosophy and Economics degree from Stellenbosch University, and a filmmaking diploma from The New York Film Academy.
Julia is an advisor to The Wellbeing Project - A global initiative focused on shifting the culture of the social change field to one oriented towards inner wellbeing.
