Family Affair
Family Affair is an expository POV documentary which breaches the topic of colorism in the context of the family structure. Through a series of revealing interview, the film explores the unique stories of three generations of black women, who have witness and experienced the harsh realities of colorism within their family structure. Each story sheds a light on the subject of colorism which transcends; history, generational gaps, and color lines- existing in every pocket within society. The documentary provides a candid look at the complexities of race throughout several generations: Teresa Evering (94), Lorraine Evering (50), and Yasmin Evering-Kerr (21). Thus, this film simultaneously, hopeful and thought provoking in its approach to examine the past, present, and future of race politics.

I was honoured with the chance to tell the story of the Everin family. As the director of "Family Affair", my objective was to address an issue too rarely investigated by modern society. Through evocative images and testimonies from a family affected by colourism, this film depicts a story of courage, compassion and endurance. My intent was to create a space of expression for these strong women and all the individuals fighting this same battle around the world.
