Matthew Hill is an independent filmmaker, who started making films at the age of seven using Lego animation. He attended Sawston Village College and joined the local Cinema Club, making short films in his spare time.
In 2016, Matthew attended the BFI National Academy at NFTS, where young filmmakers are mentored by industry professionals. He worked as a sound recordist on the short film ‘Paralysis’.
Matthew considers Christopher Nolan, Ridley Scott, James Cameron, George Miller, Stanley Kubrick, John Carpenter and Peter Jackson as his primarily influences as a filmmaker. Matthew hopes to continue to develop new material as a director/writer in the future.
As a fan of the post-apocalyptic genre, I've always enjoyed the details of world building. With Faith, it was important for me to create a short film that relied heavily on suspense and focused on character development with a female lead.
It was also important that the cast and crew did not compromise on the quality of what we were creating, so every member aimed for a cinematic standard.
Making Faith was a challenge for me as a filmmaker, but I'm in no doubt that this is only the beginning of a journey!
