Fair Seas: The Celtic Sea

Life along the East Irish coastline is shaped by the wild green waves rolling in from the Celtic Sea. But with our oceans facing unprecedented threats, can anything be done to turn the tide? However, hope remains as the Celtic Sea reveals its hidden gems, showcasing the life and colour of the underwater world, and a strongly supportive local community.

This film explores the stunning Irish coastline through the eyes of those who know it best. Voices from coastal communities explore their close connection to the ocean, sharing their stories, hopes and fears, and how marine protections can offer new hope for a brighter future.

Director Statement

As a marine scientist turned documentary filmmaker, I aim to combine science and film, exploring and sharing new insights into the natural world. This film offers new access into Ireland’s journey towards 30% protection of its national waters, exploring differing attitudes to marine protected areas through the voices of coastal communities, the many wonders of the underwater world hidden beneath the waves and the passionate, dedicated people calling for a healthy ocean. I would love for our film to be selected, to share this new and much-needed optimism with a wide audience. Through this short film, Fair Seas: The Celtic Sea, we offer new hope for a brighter future.
