Barış Özcan was born in 1999 in Ankara. He lived in Afyonkarahisar until he went to university. He came to Istanbul for university and completed his cinema and sociology studies at Koç University. Fahriyem is the director's first professional short film.
Ahmet's main struggle in the movie is to understand the thoughts and feelings of the adults around him and to step into adulthood by seeing them as role models. Ahmet is at first an observer. He observes his father's passion and his mother's sorrow. But he is not allowed to join the adult world. Meanwhile, Ahmet constantly records his observations by copying the painting on the wall to his notebook which is in the center of the story. Ahmet's mistake is to confuse Fahriye, who causes unrest at home for the painting hanging in the living room. The unrest in the house, which seemed to end with the painting being thrown out, pushes Ahmet to create; he had to finish the drawing with what was left in his mind, and therefore his imagination comes into play. Ahmet's misunderstanding of Fahriye is actually a milestone for him to step into the process of self-creation by breaking away from his father, whom he took as a role model during the formation of his personality.
