Faces Of A [Redacted*] Diaspora
“Faces of a [Redacted*] Diaspora” is a documentary that uses first person narration and motion graphic techniques to explore the issues, connections, and possible solutions to systemic failures that permit militarized police forces like the Specialized Anti Robbery Squad (S.A.R.S) in Nigeria and Police in the states to inflict harm on everyday citizens. One of the main events that will be highlighted is the Lekki Toll Gate Massacre that occurred in Lagos, Nigeria, which is highlighted as an unfortunate example of corruption within government.

Asia Nicholson is a 24 year Filmmaker, Visual Effects Editor, and Digital Media Artist from Prince George's County, Maryland. She is passionate about using media as a tool of teaching and social impact as she partners with different artists, leaders, and local patrons who seek to strengthen community through education of the mind and soul.
Asia feels that her performing arts background has helped her in "curating the proper rhythm for each film as it pertains to its own identity and audience".
She currently holds a Bachelor's Degree in English: Communication and Technology from UMBC Honors College and a Master of Arts from American University School of Communication in Film and Media Production.
She currently lives with her parents and dog, Willow, who she acknowledges as the ultimate source of serotonin on those days where she faces creatives blocks.
Establishing and maintaining community is a life purpose that is close to my heart. I believe that we, as humans, should be able to coexist with one another in a society that cares about other people and their right to life and life abundantly.
In having this heart posture, I look to teach, engage, and challenge my audience whenever I create a piece of media because I believe that in seeing a different perspective, one ultimately has the chance to learn and therefore, do better. As Maya Angelou once said "..when you know better, do better."
Whether I'm documenting a global injustice or a loving wedding, it is my duty to use my privilege and filmmaking expertise to accurately document authentic fights for community that happen locally and globally.
