FROLOV STUD

FROLOV explores sexuality with brand’s new line STUD |ˈstʌd|
It was filmed through the brand’s creative director Ivan Frolov’s trip through the United States. As a result of street casting Ivan met various models in six American states. In conversations and interviews with them the designer has conducted his own research of sexuality and gender identity, which became the basis for the STUD campaign.

Director Statement

For me, the STUD fashion film is special because we shot it during our trip to the United States in the fall of 2020. It was still a quarantine, which gave the film a new, interesting vibe. It was exciting and at the same time so unusual to shoot in half-empty Las Vegas, or the New York subway, where there were no people at all. These contrasts lingered in my subconscious and guided me differently as I held the camera and directed the process. It was a kind of adventure that we came up with: a designer and me as a cameraman and director. We went to the US, where some of our friends were actors in this experimental short film, and we also created street-casting, met new amazing people, and still keep in touch with them.
Also, during the filming of STUD, I fulfilled one of my childhood dreams. All the shooting was done on an old retro VHS-C tape and camera. It was such a long-nurtured dream of mine because when I was little, my family couldn't afford it. We've found this camera at a flea market in Ukraine. It was old and couldn't work properly all the time. But we found a solution, how to repair it and live a childhood and directorial dream of mine.
