This is the third annual F&MAD Film Festival Asia and we are once again excited to share the Film and Media Arts projects produced by undergraduate students at the University of Utah Asia Campus.

TENTATIVE SCHEDULE FOLLOWS - STAY TUNED FOR UPDATES

WEDNESDAY, APRIL 17 - F&MAD FILM FESTIVAL - DAY 1 - UAC STUDENT SHOWCASE & RETROSPECTIVE. This will be a screening of Exhibition Pieces (pieces longer than 15 minutes), Older Pieces (Film and Media Arts works completed prior to January 1, 2021), and Specialty Works (Fashion, Music Videos, Video Art & Essays) selected by the UAC FMA Faculty for screening for the UAC, IGC, and Incheon Communities. Works screened at this event will be eligible for a special Audience Award and one Jury Prize. (SCREENING LOCATION TBD)

WEDNESDAY, APRIL 17 - F&MAD FILM FESTIVAL - COMPETITION - This will be a screening of Narrative Film and Media Arts pieces eligible for the COMPETITION SECTION of the F&MAD Film Festival and selected by our Professional Jury. (Film and Media Art Pieces must be 15 minutes or shorter, completed between Jan 1 2022 and February 17, 2024, and UPLOADED TO FilmFreeway as screeners for our judges. These Narrative Works (Fiction Film, Documentary, Animation, Music Videos, TV Episodes, Video Art Pieces) will be eligible for Jury Prize, Audience Award and Individual Category Prizes) . FRIDAY, APRIL 19 - F&MAD AWARDS NIGHT - This will be the third F&MAD Film Fest Asia Awards - an Exclusive, Invitation Only event of limited capacity. (INVITEES WILL BE NOTIFIED AND LOCATION TBD)

ONLINE ATTENDANCE: the F&MAD FILM FESTIVAL and the AWARDS will be live-streamed for viewers in the U.S, France or elsewhere. A premiere screener will be loaded to the Film Festival's Official Website.

WHAT ARE THE GENERAL ELIGIBITY REQUIREMENTS FOR THE COMPETITION SECTION OF THIS FESTIVAL?

All COMPETITION pieces must be Film and Media Art Pieces (Fiction Film, Documentary, Animation, Music Videos, TV Episodes, Video Art Pieces) produced by students while attending the University of Utah Asia Campus. The submission should be made by the Director, who must be a U Asia Campus Student (or recent alumnus).

Running time for all COMPETITION shorts must be 15 minutes or less. All genres are welcome within the qualified film and media forms (Fiction Film, Documentary, Animation, Music Videos, TV Episodes, Video Art Pieces)

Submissions in a non-English language MUST be subtitled in English.

USE OF COPYRIGHTED MUSIC AND/OR MEDIA:
While it is preferred that students do not use copyrighted music or media, if you choose to use music or media you do not have the rights to, you are required to include the following disclaimer under each music and media credit: USE FOR EDUCATIONAL PURPOSES ONLY.

F&MAD FILM FEST ASIA entries for COMPETITION must be submitted on FilmFreeway to be reviewed by the Jury.

To submit to FilmFreeway, make an account, upload your film according to FilmFreeway's requirements, THEN submit to the F&MAD FILM FEST ASIA festival. Creating an account and uploading the film is not submitting. You must also submit to the actual festival.

F&MAD FILM FEST ASIA entries for COMPETITION must also be submit HQ files and supporting documents through a Google Form provided by the Festival Organizer. The organizer should have mailed out the google form but if you have not received it, email dustin.schwindt@utah.edu to receive the Google Form.

DVD or Blu-Ray are NOT accepted.

If submitting more than one film for COMPETITION, a separate completed entry is required for each title.

There are NO entry fees for this festival. Admission to the Festival is FREE.

PRIOR SUBMISSIONS
Films submitted (whether accepted or rejected) to the previous (2021-2023) F&MAD Film Fest Asia competitions are NOT eligible for submission to the 2024 Festival.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:
Q: I made an "animatic" for my Animation course? Can I submit it?
A: Yes! Animation is welcome, and animatics are definitely narrative works.

Q: What about Experimental Film? Can I submit that?
A: Yes. We are interested in unique, challenging forms, and the piece may be accepted into competition.

Q: I made a music video for a UAC class. Can I submit it for Competition?
A: You are welcome to submit it as it may be considered by the judges.

Q: I made a video with FIT as a collaboration. Can I submit that?
A: You are welcome to submit your FIT fashion video for competition. The judges will decide if the piece should be included in the festival, and, if not, the work may still be accepted into future UAC Student Showcase events.

Q: I made a video essay for a film studies course? Can I submit that?
A: No, video essays are not eligible for the competition. However, If you are proud of your video essay, Email it directly to Professor Schwindt, as it may be selected to be screened at a future UAC Student Showcase.

Q: I'm not a Film and Media Arts Major. Can I submit a film to this festival?
A: Yes. If you are a U Asia Campus student who made the project while attending our university, you can submit to the festival.

Q: I was a camera operator for a video project directed by someone who is not a UAC student or alumni. Can I submit it?
A: No. Films in this festival must be projects led by current or recently graduated UAC students. Outside projects are not eligible.

Q: I made a narrative film / documentary / animation with my fellow U Asia Campus classmates during our break period. Can I submit it?
A: Yes. As long as the leaders of the project (Writer, Director, DP, Editor) are current or recently graduated U Asia Campus students, you can submit that piece.

Q: I made a piece for UAC's "Genre Night" competition. Can I submit it?
A: Yes, works screened at other festivals and competitions are still eligible for F&MAD.

Q: I'm a student from the U.S. spending the Spring 2024 semester at UAC in Songdo. Can I submit a film I made while attending the University of Utah in Salt Lake City.
A: Yes, you are welcome to submit your film.

Q: I'm a student from UAC studying abroad for this semester (U.S. / France), can I submit my film and still attend the festival?
A: Yes you can. And if accepted, you can either fly back to attend the festival in person or watch the festival remotely through live-stream.

Q: My film is a little longer than 15 minutes. What should I do?
A: To submit your film for Competition, the file will have to be edited down to fit the time limit. Students in past festivals did this, and it made their films better.

SUBMISSION ON FilmFreeway
To submit a video file on FilmFreeway, first create an account (free). Then click on "My Projects" and "Add A Project." (10 GB limit) [You can also submit your film as a Vimeo link if you prefer, but there should be no need to spend money to submit to this festival]

If you have multiple projects you'd like to submit, go to My Projects > Add New Project, and add as many projects as you like.

FILL IN AS MUCH INFORMATION AS YOU CAN when creating your project on FilmFreeway. That includes a COMPLETE CREDIT LIST (WITH NAMES CORRECTLY SPELLED), a DIRECTOR'S BIO, a concise SYNOPSIS, QUALITY FILM STILLS & BTS PHOTOS, and an ORIGINAL POSTER. You will then be ready to submit the project to the F&MAD Film Fest Asia (and other festivals!).

GOOGLE FORM SUBMISSION
For this festival, you must also submit materials through a Google form. This includes uploading your video file as an H264 video file. Minimum Resolution: 1080p. Maximum Resolution: 4K. All aspect ratios are welcome.
