My first first job in Hollywood was playing a mutant in a Roger Corman movie. My mutant skills were so impressive B-movie legend Corman hired me to co-write the cult classic ROCK ‘n ROLL HIGH SCHOOL. This lead to writing screenplays for Universal, Warner Bros., Tri-Star, United Artists, MGM, ABC Films, 20th Century Fox and FOX 2000, as well as scripts for producers Joel Silver and Stuart Cornfeld and directors Amy Heckerling and Joel Schumacher. In television, I've written on the dramas, SPACE: ABOVE & BEYOND, MILLENNIUM, ROSWELL, THE OTHERS, CANTERBURY’s LAW, ABC’s Emmy nominated HOMEFRONT, the Emmy winning SYFY miniseries TAKEN, as well as writing pilots for CBS, Showtime and NBC/DREAMWORKS. Writer Biography - Richard Whitley

My first job in Hollywood was playing a mutant in a Roger Corman movie. My mutant skills were so impressive that B-movie legend Corman hired me to co-write the cult classic ROCK ‘n ROLL HIGH SCHOOL. This led to writing screenplays for Universal, Warner Bros., United Artists, MGM, 20th Century Fox and FOX 2000. I adapted the Don Robertson novel Praise The Human Season, sold an original screenplay to Tri-Star with Nick Nolte attached, and worked with producers Stuart Cornfeld and Joel Silver and directors Amy Heckerling, John Landis and Joel Schumacher.

Producer Jon Katzman and a group headed up by former NFL players have hired me to adapt my four hour spec miniseries about the true story behind the first Super Bowl and write it as a feature. The NFL is behind it and Katzman is securing financing.

In television I’ve written on the dramas, SPACE: ABOVE & BEYOND, MILLENNIUM, ROSWELL, THE OTHERS, CANTERBURY’S LAW, the Emmy winning SYFY/ Dreamworks miniseries TAKEN, ABC’s Emmy nominated HOMEFRONT, as well writing pilots for CBS, Showtime, and NBC/DREAMWORKS.

I’ve also written comedies including ROSEANNE, ARLI$$, THE DAILY SHOW, and was a writer/producer on Michael Moore’s Emmy nominated TV NATION. I’ve contributed to NATIONAL LAMPOON magazine and have written episodes of Disney’s highly acclaimed animated series’ RECESS and LLOYD IN SPACE and the Hub Channel’s POUND PUPPIES. I also spent one Christmas with the Ramones and am more than happy to talk about it.

Writer Statement

I did an enormous amount of research and was lucky enough to interview a few of these women, who have since sadly passed away. They made me promise that I wouldn’t “fuck them over” (their words). They felt their dramatic adventures of test piloting, being arrested for wearing pants, knowing more than their male instructors, receiving no army benefits, battling the prejudice of senators, generals and the press, and then being made public pariahs after all their hard work, needed to finally be told.

I’m proud to say that my goal was to be true to the women in presenting their previously untold story of pursing their dreams of women’s equality in the air.
