FLAMING
Attendees gather at a funeral.
In the middle lies a casket.
A priest holding White Flowers and a Black Gun appears.
The attendees must make a decision:
If they think the deceased was good, they offer a flower.
If they think he was evil, they must shoot him.
As they share memories of the deceased before making their final judgment, rumors begin to spread on social media. The comments sway the attendees, creating a division between them, and chaos starts to reign.
Is the truth real?

Born in 1987, Shimizu began creating visual media while studying Intercultural Communication and Journalism at university.
In 2015, after working at a video production company, she established her own boutique media production company, sasakurekoubou Inc.
Shimizu currently primarily directs commercials and corporate videos.
FLAMING is her film directorial debut.
I created this film as a warning to present-day society about how the flood of information we are subjected to creates and accelerates a division between us.
The Internet, and social media in particular, has enabled us to attain a greater volume, at a greater speed, of a more diverse range of information than ever before.
The downside is that we see biased opinions and information from unverified sources giving birth to slander and extremism, which not only confuses, but also divides us. Personal experience tells me that “Finding accurate information” and “Making the right judgment” have become increasingly difficult tasks.
Since we live in an age where we are surrounded by an ocean of information, we must be more aware of our responsibility to make appropriate choices, and scrutinize what we judge them upon. We must also remember to keep in mind the basic fact that there are as many truths as there are people. I hope that FLAMING will encourage viewers to think once again about the right way to deal with information.
