FIREWOMAN

FIREWOMAN is an immersive, gender and genre bending documentary, which delves into the masculine world of firefighting… as lived by five charismatic firewomen.

The film follows the work of these women as they devote themselves to a most untraditional pursuit, and showcase two stages in a firefighter’s trajectory: the challenges of newbies who try to get hired by the Montreal Fire Department and life on the force as full-time squad members.

Equipped as a firefighter and sitting in the fire truck, the filmmaker spent six months diving into the action-filled lives of her Amazonian heroes, zigzagging through city streets at full speed behind the wheel of a screeching truck, bashing in doors, hose in hand, rescuing cardiac arrest victims and delivering babies.

For an entirely new kind of chick flick-cinéma vérité style-that lays bare the exciting, dangerous, controversial and untraditional world of women who have chosen to spite prejudice, blaze their own trail, and follow their fiery passion.
