Fatemeh (Tina) is a Toronto-based visual artist, filmmaker, and Film student at the Toronto Metropolitan University, born in Tehran, Iran, on December 22, 1986. With nearly a decade of experience behind the scenes in the cinema industry, Tina has honed her craft in various roles, including film makeup artist, still photographer, short film creator, and director’s assistant.
Tina has had the privilege of being mentored by renowned filmmaker Iman G. Azar, a celebrated film director and D.O.P. with an extensive portfolio of over 20 award-winning and nominated feature films. This collaboration has deeply influenced Tina's artistic vision and technical approach to filmmaking.
Tina's work consistently explores two distinct stages of filmmaking. In the first, she delves into socio-political and cultural documentaries, capturing the intricacies of Iranian society through her lens. Her films often highlight the nuances of traditional cultures and beliefs, subtly integrating fantastical elements to deepen the narrative.
In the second stage, Tina embraces experimental filmmaking with a poetic and dream-like style. Here, she explores hidden emotional layers, subtly reflecting psychological struggles and the path toward relief and liberation. This phase of her work focuses on the complex human experience, conveying deep emotional resonances and inner conflict.
Recently, Tina directed a documentary on the art of storytelling in Persian history, centering on the Shahnameh epic poem. This project, supported by the Canada Arts Council for research and creation, underscores her commitment to preserving and sharing cultural narratives through film, enriching the cinematic landscape with stories that bridge tradition and contemporary life.
