Experiencing Interruptions?

Extremely Cruel Sadistic Story:The Phantom of Love

The theater is a fake, repeated world built by others. However we are obsessed with the unreal world in order to satisfy bloodthirsty desire and hunger for novelty.

Through virtual observation we seek for the connection of individuals. As in real time experiences, we are lonely and isolated from each other. Therefore, everyone’s trying in vain to communicate and connect, and to establish the existence of self in the connection.

The four parallel worlds are connected in secret, and they are also metaphors for each other.

1 In the theater. The girl in white dress symbolizes a certain object being watched, and repeats the same plot unconsciously over and over again.

2 People wearing the head of rats with wings of bats. They talk a lot but never make a real communication. That’s a ridiculous family member role-playing game which has become popular in every family.

3 The girl tells a story about her boyfriend. The narrative is trivial and boring however weird stuff appears in details. The girl who’s actually jailed by her boyfriend reads the news of violent crimes and murders every day on the newspaper. Finally it seems she put it into practice.

The black and white picture taken by Go Pro is connected with the girl's self-narrative.

4 The world in the stop motion animation is the world of two little rats. They have peeped into the girl ’s life and stole the girl ’s red comb.
They made a Frankenstein-like-doll with a face similar to the girl they fall in love with. The doll was torn off in the dispute between the two, and easily stolen. The little white mouse bid farewell to his little brother, and embarked on the adventure of finding his be-loved girl back.

What I’m trying to say is that, even if one’s life-long purchase is for a projection of nothingness, a meaningless phantom of love, which would never be understood by the whole world. So what? Should n’t people live for love and revolution?

Director Statement

The title is taken from Quentin Tarantino's idol, Japanese cult film director Ishii Tastuo’s Pink Violence film series.

The original intention was to explore the essence of “image art”, sometimes, works as an outlet of our own animality-feces.
I found that people use Violence Aesthetics, eroticism art to beautify their potential desire to see or even experience the brutality and extreme obscenity without feeling of guilty. In this way, people always pursue repeated delusions, obsessions, and spectacle stimulation.
However, the outside world, the reality is suffering. It sometimes makes me doubt the meaning of film-making and even the meaning of love and life.

It’s not a rare scene, at least, from my observation, in Chinese families, family members share no communication to each other. We are all lonely spirits, isolated from the others. In this context, the so-called "love" , would always refer to a certain connection" with the other individual. It even doesn’t matter whether the ” love “ is totally an illusion. It becomes our way to fight nothingness and find our existence.

Therefore, the girl in red dress’s delusional disorder made her created a boyfriend with a strong "control desire" towards her. He even had a tendency of domestic violence in her imagination, as she confirmed the existence of herself through her delusion of pain.
The rat brothers in the film even fall in love with the human girl in another other dimension, who murdered his “boyfriend”.

Through finishing the whole short, I finally found my answer towards my doubt to the meaning of film-making and even love and life. Even though human beings cannot destroy their natural desire for the wicked, degraded world. Love, no matter if it goes towards a total illusion, an impossible dream or even as our enthusiasm towards films, is still the best and the most beautiful thing in the world, and it’s worth a lifetime pursuit. I believe it is the ultimate significance of our complicated civilization.
