Extreme Manaus
"Extreme Manaus" ("Manaus Extrema" in Portuguese) is a documentary by IPAM (Amazon Environmental Research Institute) that portrays the extreme weather events of drought and fire in Manaus, the capital of the Brazilian state of Amazonas, in 2023. The film highlights the impacts experienced by Indigenous peoples, riverside communities, workers, and the general population in the region. By documenting the Rio Negro's drought, burned areas, and the smoke that filled the air in Manaus, it captures a historic moment in the global climate emergency. In response, scientists provide insights into the factors driving the escalation of climate risks, explain the key characteristics of the current crisis, and propose solutions for a future in harmony with nature.
