I am a writer, director, editor, and producer, currently working as a full-time digital media assistant in the Monmouth County Government's Department of Public Information, participating in filmmaking and freelance work on the side (mostly as an editor). Or as Edward Norton put it in Moonrise Kingdom, "Filmmaking is my real job, I'm a digital media officer on the side."
As Jonas Mekas once said (of himself, sure, but whose words I freely steal), I am a "raving maniac for the cinema," whose highly adversarial opinions on films belies my intense passion for the way moving images reflect our mindsets, our histories, our realities.
I came to films out of enthusiasm for the way they made me feel. I came to filmmaking through some mixture of Francois Truffaut's "The Films in My Life," having a group of friends who were also filmmakers, and working in corporate video for the majority of my professional life, where I still use the techniques I picked up from those jobs on the sets I run.
Previously, the last film I directed was "Streetlight Parade," but since then, I have been involved in producing and editing "Still With Us." Before that, I edited the first two episodes of "Kicks & Losers," "Untitled: A Love Story," and myriad marketing videos for non-profit organizations and Monmouth University.
"To make films is just as important as to not make films." -Buddha
But with regards to Everytime We Say Goodbye, I wanted to elevate a simple problem into grand tragedy, which is the essence of melodrama.
