Director Biography - Chike Ibekwe

Chike Ibekwe was a finalist in the maiden edition of the MNET New Directions Script Writing Workshop in 1998, with his short film script titled BEST OF FRIENDS.
He is an alumnus of the London Film Academy, London. He also had training in Script Development and Production at Deutsche Welle (DW AKADMIE).
He is a graduate of Business Administration and Management from Yaba College of Technology, Lagos.
In 2003, Chike Ibekwe wrote the TV documentary DIS IS LAGOS financed by CANAL FRANCE INTERNATIONAL for ITPAN.
His short film, GOING HOME was selected and screened at the Goethe Institute Short Film Festival in Lagos in 2006.
His first feature length film titled ETERNAL was produced with a grant from FONDS IMAGES AFRIQUE in 2006. The film was an official selection and screened at the Film Festival d’amiens in France in 2008 and also screened at festivals in Germany, Lithuania and Lagos. ETERNAL won the Best Prize – Golden Screen (Ecrans D’or) at the 14th edition of Ecrans Noirs International Film Festival, Cameroun in June, 2010.
Chike created, wrote and produced a 26x26” TV Sitcom series titled OFF CAMPUS with a support grant also from Fonds Image Afrique. It screened on MNET/Africa Magic and local channels.
His script LETTER TO THE PROF was selected into the Babylon International Writers Workshop in Berlin, in 2010, as a side-line of the Berlin Film Festival.
His feature film project LAUGTER IS THE BEST COLOUR was a final selection at the Durban FilmMart of the Durban Film Festival in 2015.
In 2018 he co-directed a 26” x 39 episode drama series MAIDEN GIFT for 4Screams International Studios.
He is co-writing episodes for BOXSA TV series, a TV adaptation of HeroCorps – a short animation for a French Production – Happy Two Productions for Canal Plus.
Chike has in the past written TV and Radio scripts for productions supported by the Ford Foundation and Rockefeller Foundation. Some of which are READY OR NOT - a radio series produced by Communicating for Change, TELLING STORIES OF CHANGES - a documentary on villagers utilizing microfinance support to develop their skills and trade by SO&U Advertising, BRIDGES – a miniseries on the Health Management Organization schemes, Saints & Sinners, Everyday People – drama series by Alphavision/Consolidated Media Associates, amongst several others, Documentary for Africast.
Chike has served as President of jury and award judge at international film festivals such as Ecrans Noirs International Film festival and Eko International Film Festival and Universal Movie
His latest feature project CHATROOM was recently privately screened at the residence of the British Deputy High Commission in Lagos at her request.
