Esther Angelica Ancrum is a DGA director specializing in faith-based and science fiction storytelling. She joined the Directors Guild of America in 2024 and made her directorial debut with Esther’s Interstellar Vision—a poetic, experimental short film that merges scientific wonder with spiritual depth. Esther is deeply passionate about creating work that challenges, uplifts, and inspires audiences, even if it’s just one story at a time. Her goal is to craft films that leave people thinking, dreaming, and feeling more hopeful than before.

In addition to her work as a director, Esther is certified through IATSE Local 695 and has completed hands-on training in Unreal Engine and LED wall technology, equipping her with the tools to explore new dimensions of storytelling through innovation and virtual production.

Director Statement

Esther’s Interstellar Vision is an experimental and poetic journey into the cosmos, told through the lens of a young woman who finds meaning, wonder, and connection through astrophotography. There is no dialogue in this film — only pure visual storytelling and a series of original poems that I wrote to express what words often fail to capture: the infinite beauty of space and the spiritual longing of the soul.

The film is grounded in real science, including the sonification of the Big Bang by physicist John G. Cramer, using data from the Planck telescope. These cosmic frequencies help shape the emotional tone and give voice to the universe itself.

This story is deeply personal. It’s a tribute to curiosity, to stargazers and dreamers, and to the idea that love, like light, travels across unimaginable distances to reach us. Through Esther’s relationship with her telescope, her books, and her partner Thomas, we explore a connection as vast as space — and as intimate as a heartbeat.

As a DGA director with a passion for both science fiction and faith-based storytelling, my goal was to create a film that inspires, uplifts, and invites viewers to reflect on their place in the universe. It’s a work of heart, faith, and vision — and I hope it encourages others to find light in the dark, and wonder in the everyday.

Thank you for considering this film.
