Escape Character

It’s the year 2042 and the most absurd assumptions about the cigar-shaped comet which passed our solar system in 2018 have been proven to be right. The so-called first contact has taken place, and communication has proceeded with surprising ease. However, a crisis ensues when a message in a sarcastic tone is accidentally sent without the emoji signifying the correct reading😜.

The foreign civilization departs but leaves humanity with a parting gift: a new form of communication that revolutionizes the world forcing everyone to assimilate to new technology or escape an increasingly complex and sometimes hostile reality into a simulated one. Escape Character is an animated film following four characters trying to find their way in the newly reshaped culture; an artist misguidedly looking for a structure in the new ’language’ to deconstruct; a politician whose typo started the entire debacle; and twins, born into a world already taken over by this new way of communication, through whom the story is experienced and on whose shoulders others lay perhaps too great expectations.
