Director Statement

I am a big fan of horror and have made a few short films within that genre. What drove me to write this story was that I was at the stage in my life where I was frustrated with dating and especially dating apps. I had my fair share of strange encounters and one in particular that started off really great and then took a peculiar turn. The script is loosely based on that encounter.

I thought there was enough bizarre humour and drama within this experience to explore it in greater detail and combine the comedy with some darker elements.

I believe this story is very relatable; we have all looked for ‘the one’ or at least wanted the perfect partner. Covid has made it even harder to meet that special someone in real life, so online dating is having its biggest boom yet. This story, for me, is about exploring themes within the dating world; the dishonesty, the expectations, and how as people, we have become used to keeping our options open while at the same time being more selective and difficult to please. This can sometimes feed a lack of awareness on how we treat others and how that can have a massive effect on their lives.

I feel that I am the only person who can tell this particular story because so much of what I have encountered is within this film. I have made a few films that focus on relationships through a realistic lens, and now I want to inject some dark comedy into the mix and hopefully show people that we should choose wisely yet stop being so picky when it comes to love.
