«Era» is a mother-and-son Odyssey, of sorts.
First and foremost, I’m interested in my heroes’ true and genuine feelings: a mother’s desperate love for one man and then for another, is tantamount to treason for her son. But this is treason without a trace of spite or aggression; his mother genuinely cannot see what she is doing, instead she is trying with all of her might to create a family, even if it is only the appearance of one.
By taking cues from the aesthetics and cinematic atmosphere of Italian neorealism, I want to give a voice to that demographic of people who, by circumstance, have been left to fend for themselves. It’s important to me to create a completely realistic daily life for my heroes, who find themselves in difficult financial and moral straits.
