REGLAMENTO Y BASES DE LA CONVOCATORIA

24° FESTIVAL UNIVERSITARIO DE CINE Y AUDIOVISUALES EQUINOXIO

1 – DESCRIPCIÓN GENERAL

El Festival Universitario de Cine y Audiovisuales Equinoxio celebra su vigésimo cuarta edición entre el 15 y el 22 de septiembre de 2022. Abriendo un espacio de encuentro y reflexión en torno al cine estudiantil y posibilitando el contacto con la visión estética de nuevos talentos, así como con las preocupaciones artísticas, sociales y personales de los jóvenes cineastas.

Este año la línea editorial se centra en el concepto de los andares y la migración, entendido como el paso de un lugar a otro o el cambio de una situación a otra. Explorando en diversas dimensiones, se aborda desde un acercamiento macro y geopolítico de la migración entre territorios, hasta el reconocimiento de los viajes personales e íntimos del cuerpo y la identidad.

Los espacios cambiantes y desconocidos, las estructuras y los contornos que se desdibujan, los cuerpos en movimiento, son algunas de las ideas que permean la curaduría y programación en esta edición del Festival.

2 – SECCIONES

La selección de obras para la edición 24 del Festival trabajará los andares como concepto central. Un abordaje holístico de la migración, que incluye múltiples expresiones de lo que consideramos un impulso subyacente a los procesos de la vida. Cambio, movilización, tránsito son fuerzas que impulsan nuestro devenir; un fenómeno geopolítico, ecológico, personal y espiritual. El cine sirve como herramienta poderosa para abordar la travesía del sujeto en un entorno cambiante; el audiovisual nos propone un viaje, ser interpelados por una obra cinematográfica implica una transformación personal que perseguimos con esta curaduría. Indagamos a través de una cuidada selección de películas la relación del individuo en tránsito con su entorno, no solo desde un acercamiento temático a la obra sino en relación a la experiencia que genera.

​​Durante el mes de septiembre, en la semana del equinoccio de otoño, el Festival encenderá la luz de aproximadamente 80 películas realizadas por nuevas miradas de todo el globo; una programación de películas que persigue las nuevas miradas, voces y maneras de abordar los cruces, andares y transformaciones en el cine estudiantil nacional e internacional.

La presente edición del Festival Equinoxio contará con 5 distintas secciones, divididas en 11 categorías, cuyas películas serán proyectadas en salas de la ciudad de Bogotá. Estas son las categorías de selección del 24° Festival Equinoxio.

Competencia oficial

Esta sección es la principal muestra de obras cinematográficas de Equinoxio. Cortometrajes estudiantiles colombianos e internacionales son exhibidos a lo largo del Festival y compiten por los premios nacionales e internacionales de Mejor cortometraje documental, Mejor cortometraje experimental y Mejor cortometraje ficción.

La sección Competencia Nacional oficial estará compuesta únicamente por obras colombianas realizadas entre 2021 y 2022, hechas por estudiantes que demuestren su vínculo con una entidad educativa, con duración máxima de 50 minutos. La sección Competencia Internacional oficial estará compuesta únicamente por obras internacionales realizadas entre 2021 y 2022, hechas por estudiantes que demuestren su vínculo con una entidad educativa, con duración máxima de 30 minutos. Se privilegiarán aquellos trabajos que encaminen sus decisiones narrativas, conceptuales y estéticas a la búsqueda de una expresión cinematográfica propia. La temática es libre.

Panorama

La sección Panorama es una pieza clave de la programación de Equinoxio ya que articula y problematiza perspectivas usualmente pasadas por alto, relacionadas con nuestro tema anual. Mediante 2 líneas curatoriales en la actual edición del Festival, esta sección ratifica su constante crecimiento y la importancia de espacios de programación para películas realizadas fuera de los grandes centros de producción.

Este programa busca explorar esa relación realidad-imagen poniendo en cuestión los límites entre los géneros de ficción y no ficción y entendiendo al cine como un territorio híbrido, lleno de exploraciones formales y preocupaciones sociales contemporáneas.

La sección Panorama estará compuesta únicamente por obras de cualquier país de origen y cualquier fecha de realización, hechas por estudiantes que demuestren su vínculo con una entidad educativa, con duración máxima de 45 minutos.

Equinoxio Errante

Esta sección del festival busca hacer un recorrido por los diferentes tránsitos interdisciplinares que ha tenido el cine estudiantil nacional en los últimos años. Una radiografía de las diferentes formas, medios, lugares y estados mediante los cuales el audiovisual universitario se libera de la pantalla bidimensional. Un rastreo que descubre obras inscritas a diferentes disciplinas como el video, instalación, performance, nuevos medios, entre otras.

La sección Equinoxio Errante estará compuesta por obras realizadas por estudiantes colombianos residentes en cualquier parte del mundo, que demuestren su vínculo con una entidad educativa.

La persona aspirante debe presentar los siguientes documentos en un archivo pdf:

1. Título de la obra.
2. Sinopsis o texto introductorio de la obra (100 palabras máximo).
3. Nombre Artista.
4. Nacionalidad.
5. Breve Perfil Artista (100 palabras máximo).
6. País de la obra.
7. Duración aproximada de la obra o experiencia.
8. Año de producción de la obra.
9. Idioma original.
10. Subtítulos (Si la obra está en un idioma diferente a español).
11. Técnicas, medios, software utilizados en la obra.
12. Rider técnico.
13. Registro de la obra.
5 Fotografías o imágenes en tamaño 1080 x 1920, formato jpg o png.
Link descargable del registro de la obra en resolución Full HD 1920 x 1080.
14. Ficha técnica.
15. Link descargable del tráiler de la obra en resolución Full HD 1920 x 1080 (si existe).
16. Declaraciones del artista (100 palabras máximo).
17. Recorrido en festivales o muestras.

19. Contacto Artista: Correo electrónico y número celular.
20. Información Adicional:
- Una (1) fotografía del director o artista, en resolución mínima de 260 dpi, tamaño 15 x 15 cm, formato jpg o png.
- El afiche o banner de la obra en alta resolución, formato jpg o png (si existe).

Equinox Pro:

Equinox Pro es el punto de encuentro para profesionales y cineastas en formación del Festival de cine y audiovisuales Equinoxio. Reuniendo distintas actividades e iniciativas del Festival, Equinox Pro busca favorecer un ecosistema de conexiones humanas, críticas y productivas entre la nueva generación de la industria cinematográfica.
Concebido como un espacio híbrido, Equinox Pro articula tanto iniciativas de apoyo a nuevos talentos y a proyectos cinematográficos en distintas etapas de producción, como iniciativas de pensamiento crítico que potencian y problematizan prácticas de la industria audiovisual.
Proyecto de cortometraje de no ficción en desarrollo
El Festival Equinoxio se ha caracterizado por tener un espacio de apoyo e impulso a proyectos que están en su fase de desarrollo, dando la oportunidad a numerosas propuestas de materializarse en películas finalizadas. Los proyectos seleccionados harán parte de nuestro anual Laboratorio de proyectos en desarrollo, contando con asesorías personalizadas por grandes profesionales de la industria para el fortalecimiento de los proyectos.
Hasta nuestra edición anterior, todos los proyectos participantes estaban limitados a obras de ficción. En búsqueda de equidad de oportunidades para primeros cortometrajes, la edición número 23 de Equinoxio trabajará exclusivamente con proyectos de no ficción que busquen ventanas, apoyos y estímulos para llegar al puerto de la realización. Esperamos que esta iniciativa sea el inicio de una celebración de la diversidad y pluralidad de la producción audiovisual estudiantil.
Pueden participar proyectos para la realización de cortometraje de no ficción desarrollados por estudiantes universitarios en cine o carreras afines al audiovisual, que acrediten su vinculación a alguna universidad colombiana.
La persona aspirante debe presentar los siguientes documentos:

Escrito sobre cine
Escrito sobre cine pretende abrir un camino donde se pueda cuestionar las formas establecidas de lo que decimos y construimos alrededor de la escritura y su relación con el audiovisual. El cine, en tanto dispositivo sensible y tecnología de imaginarios, abre todo un universo de reflexiones y dudas. Buscamos textos que redefinan las formas y las estructuras que normalmente se asocian a “la crítica de cine”. Buscamos abrir espacios a iniciativas innovadoras y disruptivas.
La convocatoria está abierta a artículos, listas, ejercicios epistolares, además de la infinidad de propuestas retadoras que enriquezcan el ejercicio de una lectura crítica del cine. Los textos deben estar escritos en español y pueden ser de autoría individual o colectiva. La(s) persona(s) participante(s) debe(n) ser estudiante(s) con un vínculo comprobable con una institución de educación superior colombiana, ya sea en el nivel de pregrado o de posgrado. Los escritos deben tener máximo 8000 palabras.

Retrospectiva

La sección Retrospectiva nos permite establecer un espacio de reflexión sobre los alcances de la creación cinematográfica autoral y el poder de la no ficción. A la luz de la obra de un cineasta internacional y una institución académica, Equinoxio busca formular preguntas sobre la relación cine-realidad y la práctica cinematográfica en sí misma.

La selección de obras para esta sección no se realiza a través de la convocatoria pública. Las categorías de esta sección son Cineasta internacional invitado e Institución académica invitada.

Programa de festivales aliados

Cada año, Equinoxio amplía su red de eventos aliados alrededor del globo con el fin de juntar esfuerzos para potenciar la circulación de obras cinematográficas a nivel internacional.

A partir de esto nació nuestro Programa de festivales aliados, un novedoso y arriesgado proyecto curatorial realizado en conjunto por programadores de distintos festivales, cuyo objetivo es articular el tema anual de Equinoxio a través de cortometrajes provenientes de la selección oficial de distintos eventos: una estrategia que hace cohabitar películas heterogéneas dentro de nuestras principales líneas curatoriales, formulando preguntas y vasos comunicantes no previstos anteriormente.

La selección de obras para esta sección no se realiza a través de la convocatoria pública.

3 - PREMIOS

El Festival Equinoxio contará con 3 diferentes tipos de galardones:

Premio a Mejor cortometraje/proyecto por categoría: participan por este premio todas las obras dentro de cada una de las categorías competitivas. Los premios a otorgar serán los siguientes:

- Mejor cortometraje nacional: Documental
- Mejor cortometraje nacional: Experimental
- Mejor cortometraje nacional: Ficción
- Mejor cortometraje internacional: Documental
- Mejor cortometraje internacional: Experimental
- Mejor cortometraje internacional: Ficción
- Mejor proyecto de cortometraje en desarrollo
- Mejor escrito sobre cine

Menciones especiales: en caso de que el jurado lo considere oportuno, podrá otorgar hasta 2 menciones especiales por categoría a obras distintas a las ganadoras del Premio a Mejor cortometraje/proyecto.

Premio del público: participan por este premio todas las películas nacionales en competencia. El premio será otorgado a la película con mayor votación en proyecciones.

La información específica sobre los premios de cada una de las categorías se realizará en el transcurso de la convocatoria, los participantes deben estar pendientes a los comunicados oficiales que realice la organización del Festival. Ninguna película podrá recibir más de dos premios.

Los ganadores del premio a Mejor proyecto de cortometraje en desarrollo se comprometen a realizar el estreno colombiano de su película en el Festival Equinoxio del año siguiente.

4 – ELEGIBILIDAD

La convocatoria está abierta tanto a películas colombianas como internacionales en las respectivas categorías. No se podrán presentar cortometrajes con fecha de producción anterior al 1 de enero de 2021 a la competencia oficial.

Solo podrán participar cortometrajes realizados por estudiantes universitarios (tanto pregrado como posgrado) cuyo director/productor pueda acreditar su vínculo vigente a una entidad de educación superior. Para los casos de Tesis o Trabajos de grado, deberán demostrar el vínculo de la obra con la entidad educativa.

Un mismo concursante puede enviar trabajos a varias categorías (incluido proyecto de cortometraje en desarrollo), pero no varios trabajos a una misma categoría. Si un concursante es preseleccionado en distintas categorías deberá elegir solo una y retirar sus trabajos de las otras categorías.

5 – INSCRIPCIÓN

La inscripción de películas al Festival es de carácter gratuito y se realiza por medio de la plataforma FilmFreeway. La convocatoria abre el día 15 de abril de 2022. Todas las convocatorias cierran el 15 de julio del mismo año. Los participantes serán notificados de la selección de sus trabajos el día 15 de agosto.

La inscripción debe ser realizada por el director/productor del filme y debe contener: archivo de visualización de la película, sinopsis corta, ficha y especificaciones técnicas, ficha artística, foto y biofilmografía del director, poster, stills en alta calidad, un documento de acredite la calidad de estudiante universitario del director/productor y la información de redes sociales de la obra y de los realizadores. En caso de que la película no sea hablada en español, se debe anexar también el subtitulado en este idioma; en caso de no contar con ellos, se requerirá una lista de diálogos en inglés con timecodes y un archivo digital en alta calidad para añadir el subtitulado.

6 – SELECCIÓN Y PARTICIPACIÓN

Luego de la fecha de notificación de la selección, ninguna película podrá ser retirada del Festival. Los participantes cuyos trabajos hayan sido seleccionados en cualquiera de las categorías se comprometen a facilitar cualquier material extra solicitado por el Festival.
En caso de considerarlo pertinente, el Festival podrá reasignar de categoría a las obras seleccionadas, así como modificar apartes del reglamento y la convocatoria.

El Festival no se compromete a correr con los gastos de traslado, viáticos o estadía de los concursantes. El concursante deberá tramitar sus gastos con su respectiva universidad, o, correr él mismo con sus gastos para participar de las actividades programadas en el Festival. La Escuela de Cine y Televisión de la Universidad Nacional de Colombia y el Festival Equinoxio podrán proporcionar una carta de invitación en caso de ser solicitada.

El participante autoriza al Festival Universitario de Cine y Audiovisuales Equinoxio a utilizar máximo 3 minutos de material visual para fines de promoción. Así mismo, concede los derechos de exhibición al Festival para la proyección de su obra durante los días de realización de este y en muestras no competitivas en Festivales Nacionales e Internacionales aliados de Equinoxio.

El participante declara al realizar su inscripción que es propietario de todos los derechos del trabajo inscrito, de sus archivos sonoros, musicales y/o visuales, y exonera a la Organización del Festival, a la Escuela de Cine y Televisión y a la Universidad Nacional de Colombia de cualquier reclamación que puedan hacer terceros sobre la exhibición pública, la propiedad intelectual o patrimonial de los mismos. El participante libera a la organización del Festival, a la Escuela de Cine y Televisión y a la Universidad Nacional de Colombia de cualquier tipo de reclamación o demanda.

La presentación de la obra al Festival Universitario de Cine y Audiovisuales Equinoxio supone la aceptación de las bases de la convocatoria y del presente reglamento en su totalidad. Con su inscripción, el participante así lo declara.

RULES AND REGULATIONS - CALL FOR ENTRIES

24TH EQUINOXIO FILM FESTIVAL

1 - DESCRIPTION

Equinoxio Film Festival will hold it's 24th edition between the 15th and 22th of September. It will open a space for reflection on student cinema and enabling contact with the aesthetic vision of new talents, as well as with the artistic, social and personal concerns of young filmmakers.

This year's editorial line focuses on the concept of “walkways” and “migration”, understood as the passage from one place to another or the change from one situation to another. Exploring different dimensions, the approach goes from a macro and geopolitical approximation of migration between territories, to the recognition of the personal and intimate journeys of the body and identity.

2 - SECTIONS

The selection of films for the 24th edition of the Festival will work on “walkways” as a central concept. A holistic approach to migration, which includes multiple expressions of what we consider an impulse to the processes of life. Change, mobilization, transit are forces that drive our becoming; a geopolitical, ecological, personal and spiritual phenomenon. Film serves as a powerful tool to address the journey of the subject in a changing environment; it implies a personal transformation that we pursue with this screening. Through a careful selection of films we investigate the relationship of the subject in transit with his surroundings.

During the month of September, in the week of the autumn equinox, the Festival will light up approximately 80 films made by new gazers from around the globe. Organized along curatorial lines that transcend the hegemonic selection categories, Equinoxio films will propose a programmatic experience that brings audiences closer to the contemporary concerns of avant-garde cinema.

This edition of the Festival will have 5 different sections, divided into 11 categories, whose films will be screened in selected theaters of Bogotá. These are the selection categories of the 24th Equinoxio Festival.

Official Competition

This section is the main showcase of Equinoxio's cinematographic works. Colombian and international student short films are exhibited throughout the Festival and compete for the national and international awards for Best Documentary Short Film, Best Experimental Short Film and Best Fiction Shot Film.

The official National Competition section will be composed only of Colombian works produced between 2021 and 2022, made by students who demonstrate their connection with an educational entity, with a maximum duration of 50 minutes. The official International Competition section will be composed only of international works made between 2021 and 2022, made by students who demonstrate their connection with an educational entity, with a maximum duration of 30 minutes. Those works that direct their narrative, conceptual and aesthetic decisions to the search for their own cinematographic expression will be privileged. The subject matter is free.

Panorama

The Panorama section is a key part of Equinoxio's programming as it articulates and addresses usually overlooked perspectives related to our annual theme. Through 2 curatorial lines in the current edition of the Festival, this section ratifies its constant growth and the importance of programming spaces for films made outside the major production centers.

This program seeks to explore this reality-image relationship by questioning the boundaries between fiction and non-fiction genres and understanding cinema as a hybrid territory, full of formal explorations and contemporary social concerns.

The Panorama section will be composed only of works from any country of origin and any date of production, made by students who can prove their connection with an educational institution, with a maximum duration of 45 minutes. Those works that are related to the curatorial lines previously mentioned will be privileged.

Errante Equinox

This section of the festival seeks to make a journey through the different interdisciplinary transits that the national student cinema has had in recent years. An x-ray of the different forms, media, places and states in which university audiovisual works free themselves from the two-dimensional screen. It is a search that uncovers works from different disciplines such as video, installation, performance, new media, among others.

The Expanded Cinema section will be composed of works made by Colombian students residing anywhere in the world, who demonstrate their connection with an educational institution.

The applicant must submit the following documents in a pdf file:

1. Title of the work.
2. Synopsis or introductory text of the work (100 words maximum).
3. Artist's name.
4. Nationality.
5. Brief Artist Profile (100 words maximum).
6. Country of the work.
7. Approximate duration of the work or experience.
8. Year of production of the work.
9. Original language.
10. Subtitles (if the work is in a language other than Spanish).
11. Techniques, media, software used in the work.
12. Technical rider.
13. Record of the work:

Equinox Pro
Equinox Pro is the meeting point for professionals and filmmakers in training of the Equinoxio Film Festival. Bringing together different activities and initiatives of the Festival, Equinox Pro seeks to foster an ecosystem of human, critical and productive connections between the new generation of the film industry.
Conceived as a hybrid space, Equinox Pro articulates both initiatives to support new talents and film projects in different stages of production, as well as critical thinking initiatives that enhance and problematize practices of the audiovisual industry. Following the spirit of the Festival and the interests of our 2021 edition, the spectrum of Equinox Pro will focus on initiatives related to non-fiction.
Non-fiction short film project in development:
The Equinoxio Festival has been characterized by having a space to support and encourage projects that are in their development phase, giving the opportunity to numerous proposals to materialize in finished films. The selected projects will be part of our annual Laboratory of projects in development, with personalized advice from leading industry professionals to strengthen the projects.
Until our previous edition, all participating projects were limited to fiction works. In search of equal opportunities for first short films, the 23rd edition of Equinoxio will work exclusively with non-fiction projects seeking windows, support and incentives to reach the port of realization. We hope that this initiative will be the beginning of a celebration of the diversity and plurality of student audiovisual production.
Projects for the production of non-fiction short films developed by university students in film or audiovisual-related careers, who can prove their affiliation with a Colombian university, are eligible to participate.

Non-fiction short films in post-production stage, which have not closed their final cut and have not had their world premiere, developed by Latin American university students, who can prove their affiliation with a university, are eligible to participate.
Text on Cinema
With the same impulse of renewing our spaces and support, our old category Essay on Film is changing to Writing about Film: we intend to open a path where we can question the established forms of what we say and build around writing and its relationship with the audiovisual. Cinema, as a sensitive device and technology of imaginaries, opens a whole universe of reflections and doubts.
We seek to open a space for all those critical texts that overflow the forms and normative structures of the tradition of film criticism. We will receive lists, epistolary exercises, essays, articles, reviews and other challenging formal proposals that enrich the exercise of critical reading of cinema by giving an account of their own authentic views and intuitions.
Proposals from university students who demonstrate a link with a Colombian educational institution are eligible to participate.

Retrospective

The Retrospective section allows us to establish a space for reflection on the scope of auteur filmmaking and the power of non-fiction. In light of the work of an international filmmaker and an academic institution, Equinoxio seeks to ask questions about the relationship between cinema-reality and the practice of filmmaking itself.

The selection of works for this section is not made through public call for entries. The categories for this section are Invited International Filmmaker and Invited Academic Institution.

Program of allied festivals

Each year, Equinoxio expands its network of allied events around the globe in order to join efforts to promote the circulation of films internationally.

From this was born our Allied Festivals Program, a novel and daring curatorial project carried out jointly by programmers from different festivals, whose objective is to articulate the annual theme of Equinoxio through short films from the official selection of different events: a strategy that makes heterogeneous films cohabit within our main curatorial lines, formulating questions and communicating vessels not previously foreseen.

The selection of works for this section is not made through the public call for entries.

3 - AWARDS

Award to Best Short film/Project by Category: all the works within each of the competitive categories participate for this award. The prizes to be awarded will be the following:

- Best National Short Film: Documentary
- Best National Short Film: Experimental
- Best National Short Film: Fiction
- Best International Short Film: Documentary
- Best International Short Film: Experimental
- Best International Short Film: Fiction
- Best Short Film Project
- Best text on cinema

Special mentions: in case the jury deems it appropriate, they may give up to 2 special mentions per category to works other than the winners of the Best Short Film / Project Award.

The specific information on the prizes of each of the categories will be announced during the following months; participants should be aware of the official announcements made by the Festival organizers. A film may not receive more than two awards.

4 – ELEGIBILITY

The call is open to both Colombian and international films in the respective categories. Short films with production date prior to January 1, 2021 cannot be submitted to the official competition.

Only short films made by university students (both undergraduate and postgraduate) whose director / producer can prove their current link to a higher education entity may participate. For the cases of Thesis or Degree works, they must demonstrate the link of the work to the educational entity.

The same contestant can apply to several categories, but not apply with several works in the same category. If a contestant is pre-selected in several categories, he must choose only one and withdraw his works from the other categories.

5 – INSCRIPTION
The registration of films to the Festival is free and is done through the FilmFreeway platform. The call opens on April 15th, 2021. All calls close on July 15th of the same year. Participants will be notified of the selection of their work on August 15.

The inscription must be done by the director/producer of the film and must contain movie viewing file, short synopsis, technical specifications, crew, cast, photo and bio filmography of the director, poster, stills in high quality, a document that certifies the director/producer as a university student and social media links to the film and the filmmaker's page/profile (Instagram and Facebook).

In case the film is not spoken in Spanish, subtitles in this language must also be attached; In case of not having them, a list of dialogues in English with timecodes and a digital movie file in high quality will be required to add the subtitles.
The registration of a work to the Festival will have the character of acceptance of this regulation.

6 – SELECTION AND PARTICIPATION

After the date of notification of the selection, no film can be withdrawn from the Festival. Participants whose works have been selected in any of the categories agree to provide all the extra material requested by the Festival.

If deemed appropriate, the Festival may reassign any selected work to a different category, as well as modify sections of the regulations and the call.

The Festival does not undertake to cover the cost of transportation or stay of the contestants. The Escuela de Cine y Televisión (Universidad Nacional de Colombia) and the Equinoxio Festival may provide a letter of invitation if requested; likewise, the winners of the prize for the Best Short film Project in Development undertake to cover the costs of transportation and insurance of the technical equipment to be used, if necessary.

The participants selected in any Equinox Pro category commit themselves to attend each of the workshops and laboratories programmed within the framework of the Festival. In case of not doing so, the Festival may consider them unable to compete for the prize in their category.

The participant authorizes the Festival to use up to 3 minutes of visual material for promotional purposes. Likewise, the participant grants Equinoxio the exhibition rights of the selected shortfilm during the dates of the Festival and approves the non-commercial exhibition of their work in universities and in non-competitive exhibitions in National and International Festivals allied with Equinoxio.

The participant declares upon registering in the Festival that he owns all the rights of the registered work, of its sound, musical and / or visual archives, and exonerates the Festival Organization, the Escuela de Cine y Televisión (Universidad Nacional de Colombia) of any claim that third parties may make about public exhibition or use of any intellectual or patrimonial property. The participant frees the Festival organization, the Film and Television School and the National University of Colombia of any type of claim or demand.

The registration of the work to the Equinoxio Festival implies the acceptance of the present regulation in its entirety.
