Director Statement

In 2018 I was approached to direct Bryan Parry’s short, Engaged, and it resonated with me as soon as I read it. Living in London myself, I could empathize with the idea of being an outsider in an extremely busy city. Also, being a man and all too aware of the mental health issues that men face today, James not being able to talk about his problems stood out to me to be incredibly poignant.

I was also excited by the cinematic potential of the piece. The script was based around the idea of keeping the audience guessing about a situation that was not as it first seemed. I was excited about the challenge of making a film that didn't spoon-feed the plot to the audience, allowing for some interpretation but without being too confusing.
