En Garde!
Ten years old Arthur is an aspiring fencer, looking up to his older brother, a successful athlete, his role model for inspiration. He depends on his brother’s advice; he longs to spar with him, even though he is doomed to lose.
But the reality he must face is that of highly competitive sport and his brother’s premature death. How does a little boy, overwhelmed with fear, see through the loss of an important adult? Through hard work, dedication and forgiveness.
This is a touching coming of age story set against the background of visually stunning footage of classical fencing.

Daniels Joffe is a young producer and director from Riga, Latvia. He developed his cinematography and editing skills by producing several music videos for local celebrities and worked in advertising industry together with his business partner. To this end, he earned a bachelor’s degree in audiovisual media arts. Daniels is also a visual effects artist and has plans to incorporate his multiple skills into his films.
I consider myself a traditional filmmaker working in the traditions of observational cinema: posing questions of craft, utilizing formal devices that shatter the illusion of reality, while honoring the potential for naturalism inherent in working with a non-professional cast and real environments. I’m influenced by cinema that maintains an ascetic style of storytelling, blends documentary and narrative technique, and succeeds with vigor and precision at painting rich portraits of human beings in their time.
