"Emergente" is about the confrontation between the two forces that influence the motor of human mind action: reason and instinct. In this story, each of these forces wraps itself around the characters, and as a result, they become spokespersons. Fernanda, a young pregnant girl, decides to make a rational decision, to abort her two children, going completely against natural purposes. Emilio, Fernanda's son, refuses to die, prioritizing his survival and rebelling against circumstances dictated by the use of reason. The message of "Emergente" finds influence in Plato's theory of the "philosopher king": Fernanda (the philosopher king), aware of a higher reality and a user of reason, makes decisions regarding her two children (the people), who are ignorant of the external world and whose actions derive from instinct. Finally, the protagonist's repentance gives meaning to the story, as she realizes that her thirst for revenge against her cheating husband has led her to act in a way she did not want to.
