Born in 1995, Charbel Chouchany is a Lebanese filmmaker currently based in Beirut.
I mainly work as a director, photographer and editor on various projects, from commercials to short films. However, I tend to focus more on personal projects such as ''Anywhere but here'' and my latest film ''Elsewhere Hotel".
Since the start of my film studies, I obtained a Bachelor's degree at the American University of Technology and had gained tons of experiences in a one year filmmaking workshop I attended back in Italy.
I believe that art can be a clear reflection of the human experience – with its struggles and triumphs, its darkness and brilliance, and its sensibleness and absurdity. I believe that to paint this picture, I must include in my films a certain sense of unease that propels people to reflect, introspect, and think about the film’s message a bit more deeply. Even though I constantly aim to grow as a director, and have directed films that were extremely different from one another, this common thread linking all of my films remains there. The film I made, “Anywhere But Here,” has been accepted into many film festivals and I think it will impact a lot of audiences. The protagonist’s plight in living in the modern day world will resonate with a lot of people and make them think not just in the movie theater, but also outside of it. I feel endless enthusiasm when discussing my films, and I hope that I can project my relentless passion onto the screen.
