Elke Franke is a film and TV director whose professional career is marked by a deep commitment to social and cultural causes. With an initial background in nursing and psychology, Elke has dedicated herself to creating audiovisual content that gives a voice to relevant topics such as childhood, inclusion, and human rights.
Since arriving in Mexico in 1996, she has worked tirelessly on projects to transform social realities through art. She is the mother of two daughters, one of whom has a disability, which has inspired her inclusive approach to all her projects. As a co-founder of Vientos Culturales, she has spearheaded initiatives such as the first national children’s news program in Mexico, “¡Vientos! Noticias que vuelan”, and has played a key role in creating impactful educational content.
In 2019, Elke produced and directed “Kuxlejal” and, together with Vientos Culturales, launched the campaign by the same name. This impactful film campaign helps reduce suicides among Tsotsil Indigenous youth, and in 2024, Vientos Culturales won the “Razón de ser” and “Compartir” awards. In 2021, Elke co-founded the audiovisual school “¿Qué me faltó preguntar?”, a platform that has trained more than 400 participants in audiovisual production focused on children and youth audiences.
